The Credit Ombudsman provides this portal with the purpose of disseminating information within the scope of its activity.

With regard to the content made available through this portal, the Credit Ombudsman seeks to ensure, as far as possible, that the information is accurate and up to date.

The general information disclosed by the Credit Ombudsman through this portal is intended solely to guide and inform users. The information provided is not legally binding in the resolution of any disputes, nor does it constitute professional or legal advice, or any recommendation, invitation, or suggestion to subscribe to any type of banking service.

In cases where this portal provides links to external websites, the Credit Ombudsman does not assume, confirm, or validate their respective content, nor is it responsible for the privacy policies and practices of those websites or the entities that manage them.

The Credit Ombudsman also does not guarantee that the laws or other documents made available on this portal faithfully reproduce the officially approved texts. Only the legislation or documents published in their original editions and formats, namely in the Official Gazette (Diário da República), the Official Journal of the European Union, and the Official Bulletin of Banco de Portugal, are fully authentic and legally valid for all purposes.

The use of information obtained directly from the Credit Ombudsman’s website is free of charge, but subject to the following conditions:

  • The distribution or reproduction of the information must be accurate and must refer to the Credit Ombudsman as the source;
  • If the information is modified by the user, this fact must be explicitly stated.

Warning regarding the use of the name and logo of the Credit Ombudsman

The Credit Ombudsman:

  • Does not offer commercial banking services to individuals or companies, including the granting of credit;
  • Does not charge fees for mediation services and the provision of clarifications/information referred to on the website;
  • Does not provide legal or financial advice;
  • Does not provide credit intermediation services.

Therefore, the Credit Ombudsman advises users not to contact any promoters of activities or transactions who improperly use the name and logo of the Credit Ombudsman, and not to send money or provide banking or credit card information to anyone claiming to represent the Credit Ombudsman or claiming to have a relationship with it.

The Credit Ombudsman cannot be held liable for the improper use of its name, logo, or address in schemes intended to defraud the public.

Users who identify or receive suspicious documentation referring to the Credit Ombudsman, or allegedly originating from it, should immediately inform the police authorities or seek guidance from Banco de Portugal.

Creation of links to the Credit Ombudsman website

It is permitted to create links to the Credit Ombudsman’s website without its express consent, provided that such links open in a new browser window and explicitly indicate the connection to the Credit Ombudsman’s website, in order to avoid the mistaken perception that part or all of the Credit Ombudsman’s website is integrated into the website from which the link is made. However, the Credit Ombudsman:

  • Reserves the right to request the removal of links to its website that it considers not to be in compliance with its editorial policy;
  • Is not responsible for links to the pages of this portal, namely for their being outdated or broken;
  • Is not responsible for outdated files downloaded from this portal that are hosted on third-party websites.
